How to win in table tennis
The rules for determining winners and losers in table tennis are as follows:
Singles matches:
Basic scoring: The game is played on an 11-point scale, and the first player to reach 11 points and be at least 2 points ahead of the opponent wins the game. For example, if the score is 11:9, 13:11, etc., the first team to reach 11 points wins the game.
Tie Breaker: If the score is tied at 10:10, play continues until one team is ahead by 2 points. For example, if the score is 12:10, 14:12, etc., the player who is ahead by 2 points will win the game.
Number of games: Usually 7 games to 4, i.e. the first player to win 4 games wins the whole match.
Doubles matches:
Scoring: Same as singles matches, 11-point system is used, the first player to score 11 points and be at least 2 points ahead of his/her opponent wins the set. In the event of a 10:10 tie, the same 2-point lead is required to win the match.
Number of games: Generally, the system of three out of five games is adopted, and the combination that wins three games first wins the game.
Team competition:
Format: Team competition usually consists of singles and doubles matches.
Scoring: The winner of each match is determined in the same way as the singles matches, i.e., 11-point system, the first one to score 11 points and lead the opponent by at least 2 points is the winner; if there is a 10:10 tie, one of the teams needs to be ahead by 2 points to win the match.
Number of matches: Team matches are played in a best-of-five or best-of-seven format. For example, the possible order of matches in a best-of-five system is: first singles, second singles, third doubles, fourth singles, fifth singles; the possible order of matches in a best-of-seven system is: first singles, second singles, third doubles, fourth singles, fifth singles, sixth singles, seventh singles. The first team to win the required number of matches wins the entire team competition
